Monika was in last night, so we went out to Park & Orchard, and I didn’t get a chance to post my new pics. But, it seems, every morning, the local radio station is addicted to this song that I didn’t even know existed, but now it’s stuck in my head.
Perhaps part of it is because Xtina is so hot in the video.
Morning on the compound and broadcast trucks started moning in. This is the same parking lot as the last two weeks. those trucks are where there were gold carts a few days ago. and tomorrow it’s getting even crazier.
NFL Network arrived last night, with their four trailers or so.
Killed some time finding our broadcast booths being built on the 200 level of the stadium.
Figured, I’d snap some shots of the stadium quiet and empty.
See that upper level there? Craig and Monika, that’s where you’ll be sitting. And when I tell you that it’s a lot colder up here than on the ground, I can now confirm it’s the truth.
These are the deliveries of the seat covers, in case it snows, which it looks like almost certainly it will not.
There’s huge stack all over the place. It a souvenir that really has little use after the stadium, but hey, for 800 bucks a ticket, it’s pretty priceless.
These are just a few of the cable runs…
which have started to look like birds’ nests.Everyone u
Everyone unpacking.
The broadcast trailers at night.
Tonight, I had a very rare opportunity to go to something called NFL House. It was an invite-only party in Times Square for only employees of the NFL, and included the best food, entertainment, and drinks. And it was the only opportunity I had to go to Super Bowl Boulevard, and go on the toboggan run on Broadway.
But instead, because of long days and lonely nights, I just didn’t have my normal energy. So, instead, I’ll do what I do best. Drink a martini, brood, and write.
This is actually a bunch of pics from the last few days. It’s been a mix of being crazy busy, putting out fires, and waiting for some problem to arise.
My first picture from the field at the 20 yard line.
it was pretty damn busy down there on the field. Won’t stop for a few days, I suppose.
State Police took over the perimeter, so security has been a lot heavier.
This is from the top of the international broadcast platform they built right next to my trailer, two stories high.
Where Craig and Monika will be partying at the invite only tailgate Party.
Bastards.
Watching the Grammys alone during the security sweep on Sunday night.
A piucture from the front door of my trailer.
And a picture of my desk.
This is a local bar where we had dinner two nights ago. This is only a third of it. They boast 100 tvs. It’s actually prett ridiculous. Rocky 5 was on.
They dressed up the Empire State Building.
A few interior shots.
Me trying to look like I belong on a football field.
And here are a few sound checks from outside the stadium. They had this shit blaring. Kind of made it cool to walk around the compound with background music, but I’m pretty sure I’m going to be sick of Bruno Mars by game day. “Locked out of Heaven” is kind of rattling around and stuck in my head right now.
Tonight, instead of blogging from my hotel room, while listening to Howard Stern by the light of my rock, sipping a martini, I’m stuck at the compound. Tonight is a special kind of night. And it’s kind of an initiation, or hazing, for me at my first ever Super Bowl.
Every one else on my three compounds has cleared out. There’s only me left. Until who knows when, but I’m told not past 6 am, so that’s nice. I’ve gone around to every trailer, unlocked every door, unlocked every storage cabinet, every bathroom.
And now I wait. They’ll be here eventually. They’ll leave nothing unturned. And at some point, I’ll get the go ahead that I can finally go home. After the noise of helicopters and barking dogs, I’ll get to go back and sleep.
Until then, just sitting here with my two laptops, watching the grammys and doodling, and trying not to bother anyone. Hope that works out.
this is a place I found about 2 miles from my hotel. Has a ton of vegetarian food. Found it on Happy Cow. Cool little place that has a nice bar and a great selection of craft brews. couldn’t have scored any better, except that I was there alone.
